Music:
Kurds, like many other nomadic people, have built musical traditions based on storytelling. Their stories revolved around love, legends, and nature. Their main instruments are a def, which is a type of bass drum and a zirne, a type of oboe. In current times many Kurds use rock music to share these stories and common themes. Traditional Kurdish music is normally played at wedding celebrations and other special occasions while modern Kurds are more accustomed to normal, westernized music.
Dance:
The other type of performing that is common at weddings and other special occasions is dance. Traditional Kurdish dancing is similar to Western line dancing where couples stand side by side and utilize their feet more than their upper body. It has been said that Kurds can appear bored or uninterested while performing these dances which is a sign of respect and focus on the dance itself, rather than trying to entertain.
Film:
Because of the nomadic nature of the Kurds, there is also little to be known about Kurdish movies. Today, many of the independent Kurdish artists produce films along with other types of art, but few of these films have been popular and are mostly independent.
