Music:
One of the common types of cultural song is a yoik. It is one of the oldest traditions in all of Europe! This is used as a method of storytelling and was once banned by missionaries. It is related to a person, place, or animal. They try not to distinctly describe a being, but rather capture their essence. This is conveyed by using varying scales and vocal noises. (It reminds me of Native American song)
Instruments

The Sami's instruments are used not only to produce beautiful sounds, but also to tell a story. Their drum, or noadi, was played, but also had carvings on it that allowed the artist to depict their own beliefs about men and the Gods.
They also play fadno flutes. Fadnos are made from a type of plant. They have 3-6 reeds and are used in ceremonies to accompany a yoik.
Much of the music is produced from instruments that come from nature, this connection from the instruments and the theme of the yoiks shows how valued nature is to the Sami.

Musicians
One of the Sami's most famous musicians is Mari Boine. She is a modern woman of Sami descent and incorporates the folk songs of her ancestors in her music, this includes yoiks.
Dance:
There is not much information on Sami dance. I would assume that dance did not develop as much as other parts of the performing arts because of the harsh climate of the region.
Festivals:
The Easter Festival- The Easter Festival originated when the original Sami would celebrate the end of winter. Many were often married at this time, as well. Although there is not as much religious connection as there used to be, it is still somewhat connected to religion, but instead it now showcases their cultural roots. Events at this festival include the Sami Grand Prix and reindeer racing, along with concerts and other performances.
The Riddu Riddu Sami Festival- The Riddu Riddu Sami Festival takes place in Kafjord, Troms each July. This showcases not only Sami art, music, and film, but also that of artists globally. It attracts about 200 artists and 3,000 other visitors. While this is still a new festival - starting in 1981 - it has become wildly popular for those interested in Sami culture.

Film:
Many of the films that are popular have origins at the Riddu Riddu Sami Festival. There is not a large movie industry in the Sami region, but many of their films are produced by people of Sami descent and deal with their cultural heritage.
