Brief History
The Sami people have inhabited the land of northern Scandinavia for 11,000 years! They are a nomadic people who follow the reindeer around in their portable tent homes, lavvos. Throughout history they have been oppressed, but currently have a population that is, "stronger than most other aboriginal people of the world".

The Sami people currently live in the regions shown in red. Like the Kurds, they do not have their own country. Instead, their territory stretches across the far northern areas of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. There are about 100,00 Sami people and half are concentrated in Norway.
